The days of routine glucose testing with lancets, test strips and blood are over.
Welcome to flash glucose monitoring!

Flash Glucose Monitoring enables you to test your glucose levels without routine pricking your finger*. The small sensor automatically measures and continuously stores glucose readings day and night.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 Flash Glucose Monitoring System Sensor (“Sensor”), is indicated for measuring interstitial fluid glucose levels in people (aged 4 and older) with diabetes mellitus, including pregnant women. The Sensor is designed to replace blood glucose testing in the self-management of diabetes, including dosing of insulin.

Unlike current blood glucose meters, the FreeStyle Libre Sensor 2 measures the glucose in the body’s interstitial fluid with optional alarms. It does not involve painful routine finger pricks. You can scan as many glucose readings as you want whilst the sensor is being worn. The Sensor has a small, flexible tip that is inserted just under the skin.

You need a FreeStyle Libre Reader or have the FreeStyle LibreLink app on your phone to use the Sensor.

It continuously measures the glucose concentration in your interstitial fluid, and stores 8 hours of data. This means that for a complete glycaemic picture, you only need to scan once every 8 hours– enabling you to make more informed decisions about how you manage your diabetes.

Finger prick blood glucose readings and sensor glucose reading won’t always match and in fact are likely to be different. That’s the interstitial fluid (ISF), a thin layer of fluid that surrounds the cells of the tissues below your skin, not from your blood. There is a 5 to 10 minute delay in ISF glucose response to changes in blood glucose. Glucose readings on ISF have been proven to reliably reflect glucose levels.

The FreeStyle Libre sensor is water-resistant and can be worn on the back of your arm for up to 14 days whilst you shower, bathe, swim, exercise or play.

You do not need to calibrate the FreeStyle Libre sensor with a finger prick. As it is made by a process which means the sensitivity of the sensors vary very little – it is calibrated at the factory.

LibreView:
Although results on the FreeStyle Libre reader can quickly and easily give you the answers you have been looking for, uploading your results on to LibreView enables you to save more than the 90 days of data available on the FreeStyle Libre reader and then remotely share this with your Healthcare Professional.

Learn how to apply a new sensor for your FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system as described in the video on the next page for a convenient glucose reading without lancets or test strips.

A finger prick test using a blood glucose meter is required during times of rapidly changing glucose levels when interstitial fluid glucose levels may not accurately reflect blood glucose levels or if hypoglycaemia or impending hypoglycaemia is reported by the system or when symptoms do not match the system readings. For a complete glycaemic picture, scan the sensor once every 8 hours.

The reader can capture the data from the sensor when it is within 1cm to 4cm from sensor.

Sensor is water-resistant in up to 1 metre of water. Do not immerse longer than 30 minutes.

For a complete glycaemic picture, scan once every 8 hours.

Patients choose which device they want to receive alarms: FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or FreeStyle LibreLink app. They must start their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with that selected device. Once the patient scans their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with that device, they can receive alarms only on that device.
