Pepto-Bismol oral suspension contains the active ingredient bismuth subsalicylate. It works by forming a soothing and protective coating of your stomach and intestine.

Preparation and Usage:
Read these instructions carefully before taking this product - if you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Directions for Use: Adults and children over 16 years only:
Shake the bottle well before use.
For oral use only.
Pour 30ml (one dose) into the cup provided and swallow.
Repeat the dose every 30-60 minutes if needed.
 
Do not take more than 8 doses in 24 hrs.

Only use as directed, use for longer than 2 days or at higher doses than recommended has been associated with an increase in side effects.

If you have diarrhoea, it is important to prevent or treat dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids or taking oral rehydration products, especially if you are frail or elderly.
Ingredients:
Active is Bismuth Subsalicylate (526 mg in 30ml dose).
Others: Aluminium Magnesium Silicate, Methyl­cel­lulose, Methyl Salicylate, Salicylic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Saccharin Sodium Salicylate, Amaranth and Water.
Safety Warning:
Possible side effects:
This product may cause a temporary and harmless darkening of the stool and/or tongue.
Warning: this product contains amaranth (colouring) which may cause allergic type reactions including asthma.
Stop using and see your doctor if:
Symptoms are severe or persist for more than 2 days
You have diarrhoea accompanied by fever
You notice anything unusual or have unexpected side effects
You accidentally take too much.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use if you are:
Under 16 years due to a possible association between salicylates and Reye's syndrome (a very rare but very serious disease)
Allergic to salicylates including aspirin or any of the other ingredients
Taking other salicylates including aspirin
Pregnant or breast-feeding.
Ask a doctor before use if you are taking medicines for:
Thinning the blood (anticoagulants)
Diabetes
Gout
Do not exceed the stated dose or use after the expiry date.
